In 1991 the UK government agreed to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Since then all children and young people in the UK have had the right to have their views heard, listened to and acted on.
Who can use the Children's Rights Service?
The Children's Rights Service is for any child or young person who is looked after by East Riding of Yorkshire Council. You have a right to use it!
What kind of things can the service help you with?
Anything we can!
This is your service - this means that if you contact us to help we will not talk to anyone else or do anything without telling you first. The only time we would have to talk to your parent/carer or social worker straight away would be if we thought you were in danger.
What do we do?
We come and visit all young people who become looked after by the council, to make sure you know what is happening to you and give you information on your rights and responsibilities. We can give you advice and information to make sure you know what is happening to you and who to talk to if you have a problem.
We can give you advice and information to make sure you know how to have your say and how to make sure the adults looking after you know your views and opinions.
Why do people contact us?
Young people contact us for lots of different reasons, such as not feeling listened to, being bullied, wanting to make a complaint or wanting to get involved in making services better for looked-after young people.
